Chih Chiu (b. 1990) lives and works in Taipei. He holds a Master’s degree in Innovation Design Engineering from the Royal College of Art and Imperial College London. He previously worked at the Volkswagen Group Future Center Asia and is currently a part-time lecturer at Shih Chien University and National Taiwan University of Science and Technology.
Chih’s practice reconfigures behavioural conditions through the arrangement of objects and space, causing familiar situations to shift. He focuses on actions that are not usually chosen in everyday life, yet become possible under specific conditions. Through exhibitions, he enables these actions to be triggered, permitted, and amplified.
Chih Chiu has received a Jury Special Mention at the Arte Laguna Prize and the Next Art Tainan Award. His solo exhibition Preparation for Sketching (2023) was held at Node94, Taipei. He has participated in group exhibitions at the Bruges Triennial (Belgium), the Natural History Museum Bern (Switzerland), Science Gallery Dublin (Ireland), and Liljevalchs Art Gallery (Sweden). His work has been featured in media such as The Guardian and BBC News Chinese, and published in books including Un art écologique: Création plasticienne et anthropocène.
